Flinsberg is located south-east of Heiligenstadt. The village is the smallest of the local districts of Heiligenstadt.

According to a calculation of the University of Bonn from 1991 the village is the geographical centre of Germany.

The church "St. Martin" (built in 1756) is visible over a long distance.
