Heilbad Heiligenstadt - Local district Kalteneber

Kalteneber is located south of Heiligenstadt at a height of over 400 metres.

The village has a lot of agriculture.

In Kalteneber we can find the church "St. Nikolaus", it was built in 1866/67.

We can also find the house where the catholic pedagogue Dr. Lorenz Kellner was born in 1811. He was the president of the Catholic Teacher Association in Germany. A school in Heiligenstadt has his name today.

The "Dieteröder Klippen" near Kalteneber are one of the highest elevations of the Eichsfeld. In this place you have one of the most beautiful views over the southern Eichsfeld.

The chapel "Kaltenebersche Klus" (built in 1767/68) is a popular hiking aim. From Kalteneber 14 stations of the cross lead to the chapel. It used to be the first stop of the processions from Heiligenstadt to the "Hülfensberg".
