Trips around Heiligenstadt

For many people the scenery in this area is particularly delightful.

The woodland has many botanical peculiarities.

There are many spacious hiking paths in the area around Heiligenstadt.

You can find rest and relaxation during long walks in the intact nature and you can enjoy the beautiful views.

   

The spa-park "Heinrich Heine"

The spa-park invites to stay and relax with many locations.

Here you can find many old trees.

In the warmer season you can feed ducks and swans.

From May to September concerts are held in the music-pavilion on Sunday.

 

A delightful attraction is the waterfall in the spa-park with 7 metres height of drop. It supplies the water of the river "Geislede" to the river "Leine".

Near the waterfall you can find a war-monument.  

   

   

The "Klöppelsklus"

The "Klöppelsklus" from the year 1716 is a former roadhouse of the Middle Ages.

It is on the end of a steep hillside on the former road from Heiligenstadt to Eschwege in the height of the "Iberg".

Here people and animals used to rest. Protect from bad weather the "Klöppelsklus" was built as a shelter.

Somebody gave signals here (whacks with a beater on a bell) if a cart went down the valley. The carts that came from one direction had to wait at the foot of the hill because otherwise they didn`t pass together.

Today the "Klöppelsklus" is used as a chapel.

it is also the starting point for many hiking paths.

   

   

The "Iberghaus"

After strenuous walkes you can have a break here in the "Iberghaus".

from here you have a beautiful view of the town and itsstriking buildings.

On the way to the "Iberghaus" you can find a commemorative column with the following inscription:

The "Pferdebachtal"
You can find it outside of Heiligenstadt in the direction of Flinsberg. There is the pond of the fishing centre, you can angle tenchs and carps in it, natural only with the angle certification. But this place is also interesting for non-anglers. Around the pond many benches invite to stay.
